Hong Kong Ballet Ball
Earlier this week, I had the pleasure to support the annual Hong Kong Ballet Ball.
The theme of this year’s ball was “The Gatsby Christmas Soirée”. No doubt, the night was filled with flappers, champagne and Charleston. Aside from supporting the emerging artists by previewing the upcoming performance of “The Great Gatsby” (which debuts on 15th February for three performances only), the night was one of those experiences that should be documented here as one of the many 2018 highlights. Perhaps it was the fact that the night itself was an act of putting the great classic novel into life, rather than a mere preview of the ballet. Since having discovered and (forced to) read Fitzgerald’s greatest work in Year 9 Division class, the closest chance encounter over the years was that of the 2013 Baz Luhrmann film where it was impossible to fathom out Daisy’ innocent bliss over the nauseating (but brilliant) cinematography. And, of course, the gothic vocals of Lana Del Rey’s “Young and Beautiful“ remain to haunt me to this day in multiple covers, no less.
For the evening, I was dressed by Dutch suit brand, Suitsupply and wore the Lazio Green Dinner Jacket. The 6,700 sq ft store is situated on Ice House Street, within one of Hong Kong’s most famous intersections, in Central. Having now opened for two years, there is a reaon why the Dutch tailor is here to stay - the brand offers a wide selection of suits, from accessible prices starting at $3,000HKD to more bespoke customised pieces.
Whether you opt for a Classic Black Tuxedo or Havana Light Brown fit, you’ll certainly be able to find the right fit at Suitsupply online or in-stores.
